In dancing houses and pavillions in Finland the swing dances are more and more popular. One of such dances, called Bugg, has developed into its current form in Sweden. Bugg is a brisk dance that fits well with music that has fast beat, all the way from Swedish Abba to American country music. The basics of this dance are easy to learn, and still, the dance provides you with a learning challenge for many years to come.
The video clip below is a quite good example of what Bugg looks like when the Swedes give their best. The style in Finland does considerably differ from this, but over time may develop to be more closer to its Swedish cousin. The video is from a competition, so even in Sweden the dancing in dancing houses may not be on this level. Anyhow, most of us just dance for fun, leaving competition to other types of sports.
Who play Bugg music
The right answer must be, any Swedish orchestra. However, in Finland most of the orchestra's have not really understood the potential of bugg music. Bugg is fun and very energetic dance, and it has especially lured regular dance-goers to learn it. Too often the only bugg you dance, you have to dance to Finnish "Humppa" music. However, there are positive exceptions to the rule.
Finnish artists and orchestras worth mentioning are Charles
Plogman and Tommys, and Charlies. Also Finlanders
has realised the demand for Bugg, and they usually have a couple of bugg songs in their set. Music that can be danced as bugg, can usually be danced as traditional foxtrot. So everybody can enjoy the music and dance as they like.

Hienoa katsella kisoja.

, on 20.01.2010 19:03 Moi, jossain olen kyllä ihan buggin opetusvideoonkin törmännyt, tosin ruotsinkieliseen.
