Jardim Orquidea is an orchid garden located in the city of Funchal,Madeira. The garden is owned by Pregetter family which has relocated to Madeira from Austria. This garden is one of the three places on the island that have orchids on show, the other two being Boa Vista Orchids at Quinta Boa Vista, and the Madeira Orchid Farm at Quinta dos Saltos. The latter one seems to be popular by the guides of at least one Finnish travel agency, although I must admit it has not met expectations. Boa Vista Orchids is in the neighborhood of Jardim Orquidea, and if you have your own map, you can fairly easily navigate your way from Jardim Orquidea to Boa Vista Orchids by walking downhill.
If you have time and interest, by all means do visit both Jardim Orquidea and Boa Vista Orchids. The reason why we recommend Jardim Orquidea is because there you may buy baby orchids in bottle, in vitro. The orchid seedlings are guaranteed to be healthy, as the Pregetters have own laboratory where they propagate the orchids. If you visit Madeira, and you are interested in seeing or buying orchids, do not miss this place. We have here some sample pictures from the orchid garden, and a short video clip as well.
